ACOs, Improvement in Quality Care and Generating Shared Savings

With the rise of ACOs across the country, many physicians and doctor offices are beginning to ask questions around the impact of the Affordable Care Act. We have outlined some data that could help provide insight in regards to ACOs.

This past August www.cms.gov, issued quality and financial performance results from the year prior proving that there is financial data that shows that Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) continue to improve the quality of healthcare for Medical Beneficiaries while generating financial savings.

This was judged based on results that were shared using metrics data that assess the following: patient’s rating of their doctor, communication from clinicians, screening of blood pressure and tobacco use and cessation, and the use of Electronic Health Records. Pioneer ACOs that were part of this study showed improvement across all quality measures.

Based on these findings, the number of beneficiaries served by Accountable Care Organizations, is likely to see continued growth. This is an important step towards better, more accessible, and more affordable healthcare.
